Regular Season Round 18: Itzehoe - Vechta 2 90-101

There was a small surprise when seventh ranked Vechta-2 (9-7) won against 5th ranked Eagles (9-8) in Itzehoe 101-90 on Saturday. Vechta-2 made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Point guard Kevin Smit (182-1991) notched 31 points to lead the effort and Leon Okpara (192-1998) supported him with 26 points and 5 rebounds. Four Vechta-2 players scored in double figures. Even 26 points and 4 assists by American point guard Trey McBride (188-1997, college: Northwood) did not help to save the game for Eagles. Emil Marshall (198-2000) added 21 points. Vechta-2 have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place. Loser Eagles dropped to the sixth position with eight games lost. Vechta-2 will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Eagles will play against Herford (#12) and hope to secure a win and be promoted back to the ProA just one year after relegation.
