There was no surprise when 5th ranked UBC St. Poelten (11-10) was crushed on the road by second ranked Gmunden Swans (17-4) 103-72 on Wednesday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 16-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 103-72. Gmunden Swans made 23-of-27 free shots (85.2 percent) during the game. Gmunden Swans outrebounded UBC St. Poelten 36-20 including a 13-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. British-French guard Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye (193-1996, college: Bradley) stepped up and scored 21 points (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) for the winners and the former international forward Toni Blazan (197-1992, agency: Mansfield and Associates) chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds. Four Gmunden Swans players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American guard Kelvin Lewis (195-1988, college: Houston) with 16 points and guard Felix Angerbauer (180-2003) scored 16 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Gmunden Swans. They maintain second place with 17-4 record behind leader Vienna. UBC St. Poelten at the other side keeps the fifth position with ten games lost. Gmunden Swans will meet at home Nord Dragonz (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. UBC St. Poelten will play against Timberwolves (#12) in Vienna and hope to secure a win.
