Second Stage Round 2: Ploiesti CSM - Focsani 81-73

There was no surprise when Focsani was defeated on the road by Ploiesti CSM 81-73 on Wednesday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 23-14. But Focsani won second period 20-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Ploiesti CSM had a 30-17 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Serbian center Veljko Brkic (206-1995) scored 15 points to lead the charge for the winners and American point guard Kwamain Mitchell (180-1989, college: St.Louis) chipped in 11 points and 5 assists during the contest. Ploiesti CSM's coach Mihai Popa used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Saint Lucian-Canadian guard Adika Peter-McNeilly (190-1993, college: TMU) responded with 16 points and 4 assists and American point guard Kevin Johnson (183-1999, college: UIC) scored 16 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Ploiesti CSM will meet Steaua B. in the next round. Focsani will play against Targu Jiu in Rovinari and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
