There was a surprise result in Trier where ninth ranked Gladiators (11-11) edged higher ranked 46ers (13-9) 91-88 on Sunday. Gladiators made 20-of-22 free shots (90.9 percent) during the game. Gladiators outrebounded 46ers 42-27 including a 33-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American forward Travis Daniels (203-1992, college: MSU) scored 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import center Dylan Painter (208-1998, college: Delaware) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Gladiators' coach Pascal Heinrichs used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side Serbian forward Stefan Fundic (200-1994, agency: BeoBasket) responded with 20 points and 9 rebounds and swingman Luis Figge (197-1997, agency: LUMANI 10.7) scored 12 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Gladiators and five 46ers players scored in double figures. Gladiators moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Nuernberg. Loser 46ers keep the fifth position with nine games lost. They share it with Dresden. Gladiators will meet Kirchheim Knights (#11) on the road in the next round. 46ers will play against SparkassenStars (#14) and hope to secure a win and be promoted back to the BBL just one year after relegation.
