There was an upset when higher ranked Siauliai (10-10) was defeated at home by eleventh ranked Gargzdu (4-16) 99-92 on Thursday. Gargzdu made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American Rodney Purvis (193-1994, college: UConn) who scored 24 points. The former international center Sarunas Beniusis (206-1993, agency: BIG) chipped in 19 points and 7 rebounds. American point guard Antino Jackson (182-1996, college: N.Mexico, agency: Octagon Europe) produced 19 points and 7 assists and swingman Martynas Varnas (196-1997) added 18 points and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. Five Gargzdu and four Siauliai players scored in double figures. Siauliai's coach Antanas Sireika rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Newly promoted Gargzdu maintains eleventh position with 4-16 record. Loser Siauliai keeps the seventh place with ten games lost. Gargzdu will meet higher ranked Lietkabelis (#5) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Siauliai will play against Neptunas in Klaipeda and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
