Regular Season Round 13: Timberwolves - Basket Flames 56-79
Date: February 18, 2023
Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Vienna: Flames (#4) and Timberwolves (#5). Timberwolves were crushed at home by 23 points 56-79 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. It looked good early as Timberwolves took a 3-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Flames had a 18-14 second period charge getting the lead and Timberwolves were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 56-79. Flames forced 19 Timberwolves turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Bulgarian power forward Zlatka Madankova (185-2002) nailed a double-double by scoring 27 points and 14 rebounds for the winning side and Luxembourg forward Loulou Kenens (173-1997) accounted for 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Croatian guard Iva Ilic (170-1997, college: Nova SE) came up with 10 points and 7 rebounds and German forward Mira Eulering (180-2000) added 12 points respectively for Timberwolves in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Flames maintains fourth place with 7-5 record. Timberwolves at the other side keep the fifth position with eight games lost. Flames' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Vienna Vienna United.
