Regular Season Round 23: Kirchheim - Trier 78-71

There was a minor upset when higher ranked Gladiators (11-12) lost on the road to twelfth ranked Kirchheim Knights (11-12) 78-71 on Sunday. Kirchheim Knights forced 23 Gladiators turnovers. Strangely Gladiators outrebounded Kirchheim Knights 44-27 including a 32-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Michael Flowers (185-1999, college: WSU) who led the winners and scored 18 points and 5 assists. Naturalized Albanian point guard Besnik Bekteshi (191-4190) accounted for 20 points for the winning side. Four Kirchheim Knights players scored in double figures. American Parker Van Dyke (191-1994, college: Utah) came up with 24 points and the other American import Daniel Monteroso (191-1994, college: West Liberty) added 11 points respectively for Gladiators in the defeat. Gladiators' coach tested eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Kirchheim Knights moved-up to eighth place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Gladiators. Kirchheim Knights will meet league's second-placed Tigers in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gladiators will play against Lions (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
