Very predictable result in Oldenburg where fourth ranked EWE Baskets (14-7) defeated 14th ranked Hakro Merlins (7-13) 94-86 on Sunday. EWE Baskets dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Hakro Merlins' 30. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American point guard DeWayne Russell (180-1994, college: GCU) fired 34 points (!!!) and 9 assists for the winners. The other American import Tanner Leissner (201-1995, college: UNH) chipped in 16 points. American guard James Batemon (185-1997, college: LMU) produced 26 points and Lithuanian Arunas Mikalauskas (203-1997) added 12 points respectively for lost side. Hakro Merlins' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. EWE Baskets maintains fourth position with 14-7 record. Hakro Merlins lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fourteenth place with 13 games lost. EWE Baskets will meet at home Braunschweig (#16) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Hakro Merlins will play against Seawolves in Rostock and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
