Regular Season Round 21: Budivelnyk - Polit-Halychyna 76-70

Superleague top team - Budivelnyk (24-0) added another victory to their record. This time they beat fifth ranked Polit-Halychyna (13-11) in Kyiv 76-70. It looked good early as Polit-Halychyna took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Budivelnyk had a 33-14 second period charge getting the lead and Polit-Halychyna was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 70-76. Budivelnyk players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. The former international swingman Oleksandr Kolchenko (195-1988, agency: BIG) stepped up and scored 21 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners and the former international power forward Maksim Sandul (207-1991, agency: BIG) chipped in 11 points and 11 rebounds. Four Budivelnyk players scored in double figures. Budivelnyk's coach Valerii Plekhanov allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was forward Vladlen Berezhnyy (199-1995) with 30 points and 9 rebounds and Maksym Ozhehov scored 12 points and 6 rebounds. The victory was the twenty fourth consecutive win for Budivelnyk. They maintain first place with 24-0 record. Newly promoted Polit-Halychyna keeps the fifth position with 11 games lost. Budivelnyk will play against Cherkasy (#7) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Polit-Halychyna will play against Kyiv Basket and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
