Regular Season Round 21: Galatasaray - Fenerbahce 62-80

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Istanbul: Fenerbahce (#2) and Galatasaray (#3). Galatasaray was crushed at home by 18 points 62-80 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Fenerbahce dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Galatasaray's 38. They outrebounded Galatasaray 36-24 including 24 on the defensive glass. Fenerbahce looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American forward Breanna Stewart (193-1994, college: UConn) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and international point guard Serife Onar (167-1996) chipped in 22 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Four Fenerbahce players scored in double figures. Fenerbahce's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was international center Teaira McCowan (201-1996, college: MSU) with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds and American center Azura Stevens (198-1996, college: UConn) scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Fenerbahce (18-3) have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. Defending champion maintains second place behind leader Mersin. Galatasaray at the other side keeps the third position with five games lost. Fenerbahce are looking forward to face Cankaya (#8) in Ankara in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Galatasaray will play on the road against Botas A. (#4) in Adana and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
