Regular Season Round 22: Rilski - Balkan 77-76

Second-ranked Balkan (16-5) was very close to win a game against first ranked Rilski (21-1) in Samokov on Saturday. Rilski managed to secure only one-point victory 77-76. However their fans expected easier game. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Balkan. Rilski shot 26 for 37 from the free-throw line, while Balkan only scored nine points from the stripe. They outrebounded Balkan 41-30 including a 33-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. 30 personal fouls committed by Balkan helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Alexandar Yanev (203-1998) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 6 rebounds. The former international Chavdar Kostov (196-1988, agency: BIG) contributed with 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Chilean-Spanish center Manny Suarez (208-1993, college: Creighton) replied with 21 points and 9 rebounds and the former international Pavlin Ivanov (195-1993, agency: Octagon Europe) added 16 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals in the effort for Balkan. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Rilski have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 21-1 record. Defending champion Balkan keeps the second place with five games lost. Rilski are looking forward to face Chernomorets (#4) in Burgas in the next round. Balkan will play at home against CSKA and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
