There was no surprise when 18th ranked Schwenningen (5-20) lost at home to ninth ranked Eisbaeren Bremerhaven (13-13) 81-65 on Sunday. Eisbaeren Bremerhaven dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Schwenningen's 26. They outrebounded Schwenningen 33-21 including a 29-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Eisbaeren Bremerhaven looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists. American point guard Matt Frierson (185-1997, college: Citadel) notched 18 points to lead the effort and Slovakian point guard Simon Krajcovic (188-1994, college: LMU) supported him with 11 points and 8 assists. Five Eisbaeren Bremerhaven players scored in double figures. Eisbaeren Bremerhaven's coach Steven Key used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 27 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 blocks (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) by Jacob Knauf (210-1997) did not help to save the game for Schwenningen. American point guard Casey Benson (191-1995, college: GCU) added 14 points and 5 assists for the hosts. Eisbaeren Bremerhaven maintains ninth position with 13-13 record. Schwenningen lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 20 games lost. Eisbaeren Bremerhaven will meet at home Science City Jena (#14) in the next round where they are favorite.
