Regular Season Round 23: Schwelm - Herford 87-90

There was a minor upset when 9th ranked Schwelm (9-12) was edged at home by twelfth ranked Herford (3-18) 90-87 on Saturday. Herford outrebounded Schwelm 44-28 including 18 on the offensive glass. It was a great evening for Lithuanian Vaidotas Volkus (203-1985, college: Redlands CC) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Naturalized American Shawn Gulley (200-1993, college: Temple JC) helped adding 15 points and 14 rebounds. Naturalized American Chris Frazier (182-1990, college: Dubuque) responded with 22 points and 5 assists and American CJ Oldham (202-1991, college: Gannon) scored 11 points and 5 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Newly promoted Herford maintains twelfth place with 3-18 record. Loser Schwelm keeps the ninth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Iserlohn. Herford will meet at home higher ranked RheinStars (#8) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Schwelm will play against Dragons Rhoendorf and will have a slim chance for a victory.
