Second Stage Round 5: Sampaense - Benfica B 78-85

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Coimbra where 4th placed Sampaense (2-3) was defeated by fifth ranked Benfica B (2-2) 85-78 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was Serbian center Ivan Pavicevic (206-2002) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Tiago Santos (-2002) chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds. American center Dajion Henderson (203-1996, college: LeMoyne-Owen) produced a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds and guard Joao Carreiras (180-2001) added 18 points and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Sampaense's coach Claudio Figueiredo tested ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Benfica B moved-up to fourth place. Loser Sampaense dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. They share it with Santo Andre. Benfica B will meet at home league's leader Maia Basket in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sampaense will play against Barreirense (#6) in Barreiro and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
