Regular Season Round 21: Anadolu Efes - Buyukcekmece 97-98

A very close game took place in Istanbul (derby !!!) between Buyukcekmece and Efes. Ninth ranked Buyukcekmece (9-12) got a very close victory on the road over 4th placed Efes (15-6). Buyukcekmece managed to escape with a 1-point win 98-97 on Sunday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the home team. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Efes. Buyukcekmece looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. American point guard Jordon Crawford (168-1990, college: BGSU) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 assists for the winners and his fellow American import point guard Briante Weber (188-1992, college: VCU) chipped in 19 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. The best for the losing side was Senegalese-French Amath MBaye (205-1989, college: Oklahoma) with 25 points and the former international guard Ahmet Tuncer (193-1993) scored 17 points and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Efes' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Buyukcekmece moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Galatasaray. Loser Efes keeps the fourth position with six games lost. Buyukcekmece will meet at home Socar Petkim (#12) in the next round. Efes will play against Konyaspor (#16) and hope to secure a win.
