A very close game took place in Hagen between Gladiators and Phoenix Hagen. Tenth ranked Gladiators (14-14) got a very close victory on the road over higher ranked Phoenix Hagen (16-12). Gladiators managed to escape with a 3-point win 91-88 on Saturday evening. Gladiators made 18-of-20 free shots (90.0 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Dylan Painter (208-1998, college: Delaware) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 6 rebounds and the other American import point guard Jordan Johnson (177-1995, college: UNLV) who added 14 points and 6 assists during the contest. Johnson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the losing side American guard Kyle Castlin (193-1996, college: Xavier) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and center Marcel Kessen (207-1997) scored 23 points. Five Gladiators and four Phoenix Hagen players scored in double figures. Phoenix Hagen's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Gladiators moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Paderborn. Phoenix Hagen at the other side keeps the sixth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Giessen. Gladiators will meet league's second-placed Tigers in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Phoenix Hagen will play against the league's leader Rasta Vechta (#1) having rather not much hope for a victory.
