There was a small surprise when fifteenth ranked MLP Academics Heidelberg (9-16) won against at home 13th ranked Hakro Merlins (8-15) 93-82 on Sunday. MLP Academics Heidelberg shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 57.7 percentage. American point guard Eric Washington (183-1993, college: Miami, OH) fired 29 points and 7 assists for the winners. Belgian Elias Lasisi (191-1992) chipped in 20 points and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). American guard James Batemon (185-1997, college: LMU) produced 28 points and Finnish point guard Edon Maxhuni (188-1998, college: LBSU, agency: Octagon Europe) added 15 points and 5 assists respectively for lost side. MLP Academics Heidelberg moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Hamburg. Loser Hakro Merlins dropped to the fifteenth position with 15 games lost. MLP Academics Heidelberg will meet higher ranked EWE Baskets (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hakro Merlins will play against Braunschweig (#16) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
