Second Stage Round 6: Sangalhos - Esgueira 81-83

Rather expected game when 11th ranked Sangalhos (2-26) were edged at home by ninth ranked Esgueira (12-16) 83-81 on Saturday. Strangely Sangalhos outrebounded Esgueira 41-27 including a 19-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. American point guard Trevon Evans (183-1995, college: Sioux Falls) notched 23 points to lead the effort and Canadian forward Biniam Ghebrekidan (206-1996, college: Carleton) supported him with 19 points and 5 rebounds. Even a double-double of 18 points and 15 rebounds by Angolan point guard Cleuzio Castro (180-1997) did not help to save the game for Sangalhos. Dutch-Angolan point guard Jose Maconda (187-2001) added 16 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Esgueira moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Vitoria SC. Sangalhos at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keep the eleventh position with 26 games lost. Esgueira will meet at home CAB Madeira (#10) in the next round. Sangalhos will play against Imortal in Albufeira and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
