Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Lisbon: Benfica (#1) and Sporting (#2). Benfica (23-5) won against visiting Sporting (22-6) 99-86. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Sporting. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Sporting was plagued by 31 personal fouls down the stretch. American point guard Toney Douglas (189-1986, college: FSU) scored 29 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import center Terrell Carter II (208-1996, college: Fresno St., agency: Haylett Sports) chipped in 20 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) during the contest. The best for the losing side was international Travante Williams (193-1993, college: Alaska, agency: Inception Sports) with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) and the former international point guard Diogo Ventura (193-1994, agency: Promo Sport ID) scored 11 points and 8 assists. Four Benfica and five Sporting players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Benfica have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 23-5 record, which they share with FC Porto. Sporting at the other side dropped to the third place with six games lost. Benfica will play against league's second-placed FC Porto on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Sporting will have a break next round.
