Regular Season Round 27: Goettingen - Hamburg 71-98

There was a surprise result when fourteenth ranked Hamburg Towers (10-18) rolled over on the road higher ranked BG Goettingen (14-11) 98-71 on Tuesday. Hamburg Towers shot 66.0 percent from the field. It was a great shooting night for Hamburg Towers especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was an exceptional evening for Slovenian point guard Ziga Samar (197-2001) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 assists (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). Swiss guard Anthony Polite (198-1997, college: FSU) accounted for 15 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. Five Hamburg Towers players scored in double figures. Hamburg Towers' coach Benka Barloschky felt very confident that he used 10 players saving starting five for next games. Norwegian point guard Harald Frey (188-1997, college: Montana St.) came up with 20 points and 6 assists and American Mark Smith (193-1999, college: Kansas St.) added 19 points and 6 rebounds respectively for BG Goettingen in the defeat. Hamburg Towers moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Crailsheim. BG Goettingen lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the seventh position with 11 games lost. Hamburg Towers will meet at home league's leader ALBA Berlin in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. BG Goettingen will play against EnBW Ludwigsburg (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
