Not a big story in a game when 18th ranked Bayreuth (5-21) lost to thirteenth ranked Hakro Merlins (10-18) in Crailsheim 73-78 on Wednesday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. It was an exceptional evening for Finnish point guard Edon Maxhuni (188-1998, college: LBSU, agency: Octagon Europe) who led the winners and scored 23 points and 6 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). American Jaren Lewis (201-1996, college: ACU) accounted for 12 points and 4 assists for the winning side. American point guard Brandon Childress (183-1997, college: Wake Forest) came up with 26 points and the other American import Ahmed Hill (196-1995, college: Virginia Tech) added 8 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Bayreuth in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Hakro Merlins maintains thirteenth place with 10-18 record, which they share with Hamburg. Bayreuth at the other side stay dead last with 21 lost games. Hakro Merlins will meet at home higher ranked s Oliver Baskets (#8) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Bayreuth will play against the league's second-placed Telekom Baskets (#2) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
