Second Stage Round 10: Brasov - Stomart Iasi 85-78

Leader Brasov delivered the ninth victory on Friday night. This time they beat 13th ranked Stomart Iasi (2-5) 85-78. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Stomart Iasi won third quarter 19-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Stomart Iasi 49-36 including 16 on the offensive glass. Forward Sergiu Souca (200-1986) had a double-double by scoring 28 points and 13 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Ovidiu Stochici (182-1995) chipped in 12 points, 7 rebounds, 11 assists and 4 steals during the contest. Four Brasov players scored in double figures. Brasov's coach Eugen Rosu used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side Stefan Paduraru (-2005) responded with 31 points and 4 steals and Calin Gradinaru scored 23 points and 8 rebounds. Brasov maintains first position with 9-4 record. Stomart Iasi lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the thirteenth place with five games lost. Brasov will meet Sibiu 2 (#5) on the road in the next round. Stomart Iasi will play against Gheorgheni (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
