There was a small surprise when twelfth ranked Gheorgheni (4-4) outleveled at home 10th ranked Ploiesti CSU (6-3) 92-69 on Friday. The game without a history. Gheorgheni led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Ploiesti CSU's 30. Gheorgheni forced 28 Ploiesti CSU turnovers and outrebounded them 39-28 including 28 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Ploiesti CSU's players. Tamas Bodo had a double-double by scoring 27 points and 15 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Matyas Lokody (190-1987) chipped in 23 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists and 9 steals during the contest. Four Gheorgheni players scored in double figures. Gheorgheni's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench saving starting five for next games. At the losing side forward Alin Carabulea (-1995) responded with 19 points and Alexandru Chirila scored 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Gheorgheni have a solid three-game winning streak. Newly promoted Gheorgheni maintains twelfth position with 4-4 record. Ploiesti CSU at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the eleventh place with three games lost. Gheorgheni will meet Stomart Iasi (#13) on the road in the next round. Ploiesti CSU will have a break next round.
