Second Stage Round 5: Politekhnik-2 - Sambir 64-67

Rather expected game in Kharkiv where 3rd placed Politekhnik-2 (3-5) was edged by first ranked Sambir (6-2) 67-64 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Politekhnik-2 won fourth quarter 14-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sambir dominated down low during the game scoring 42 of its points in the paint compared to Politekhnik-2's 22. They outrebounded Politekhnik-2 40-26 including 27 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was forward Sergey Zayets (185-1995) who scored 19 points and 9 rebounds. Forward Oleg Jozefcik (187-1996) chipped in 18 points. Forward Maksym Mochalov (201-1995) produced 31 points and 5 rebounds and Mikita Bondarenko (199-2000) added 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for the hosts. Sambir have a solid series of four victories in a row. Newly promoted Sambir maintains first place with 6-2 record. Politekhnik-2 lost fourth consecutive game. Politekhnik-2 at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the third position with five games lost. Sambir will meet at home league's leader Rivne in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Politekhnik-2 will play against the league's leader Krivbas 2 in Kryvyi Rih and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
