Liga Betclic round 7 caused change at the leadership position. Sixth defeat of league's leader Benfica (23-6) against second ranked FC Porto (24-5) 92-89 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Benfica. It was a key game for the top position in the league. FC Porto dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Benfica's 32. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. 27 personal fouls committed by Benfica helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Max Landis (188-1993, college: PFW, agency: Promo Sport ID) who helped to win the game recording 22 points. His fellow American import guard Teyvon Myers (188-1994, college: WVU) contributed with 17 points and 6 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws) for the winners. FC Porto's coach Fernando Sa used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The former international Betinho Gomes (202-1985) answered with 21 points and 8 rebounds and American guard Aaron Broussard (196-1990, college: Seattle) added 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Benfica. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. FC Porto have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Defending champion Benfica dropped to the second place with six games lost. They share the position with Sporting. They were replaced at the leadership position by Esgueira. Benfica will play next round against strong Oliveirense trying to make it back to the top of the standings. FC Porto will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Sporting in Lisbon.
