Regular Season Round 23: Veneto-Cherkasy - KIVS SBK 35-72

There was a minor upset when 4th placed Veneto-Cherkasy (3-16) was outscored at home by sixth ranked KIVS SBK (6-13) 72-35 on Saturday. The game without a history. KIVS SBK led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Veneto-Cherkasy to just 6 points in fourth quarter and to 13 points in second half. KIVS SBK held Veneto-Cherkasy to an opponent 15.4 percent shooting from the field compared to 36.6 percent accuracy of the winners. It was an exceptional evening for swingman Katerina Shtyk (175-2003) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Forward Tetyana Gaiv (178-1988) accounted for 15 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side. KIVS SBK's coach Irina Klenina felt very confident using 11 players saving starting five for next games. Forward Anastasia Kostoglod (174-2005) came up with 23 points and center Maria Pugach (181-2006) added 9 points and 14 rebounds respectively for Veneto-Cherkasy in the defeat. Newly promoted KIVS SBK maintains sixth place with 6-13 record. Veneto-Cherkasy lost their seventh game in a row. Veneto-Cherkasy at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the fourth position with 16 games lost. KIVS SBK will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Veneto-Cherkasy will play again against KIVS SBK (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
