Very predictable result when third ranked Lions (21-11) won against 17th ranked Leverkusen (9-23) in Karlsruhe 83-76 on Saturday. Lions made 26-of-33 free shots (78.8 percent) during the game. Lions outrebounded Leverkusen 44-32 including 16 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The winners were led by American point guard Ben Shungu (188-1997, college: Vermont) who scored that evening 28 points and 4 assists and center Maurice Pluskota (209-1992, agency: Octagon Europe) supported him with 13 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Lions players scored in double figures. Even 19 points by American forward Nick Hornsby (201-1995, college: Sacramento St.) did not help to save the game for Leverkusen. Canadian guard Kadre Gray (186-1997, college: Laurentian) added 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Lions have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 21-11 record having five points less than leader Vechta. Leverkusen lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventeenth place with 23 games lost. Lions will meet league's second-placed Tigers in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Leverkusen will play against Phoenix Hagen (#7) and hope to secure a win.
