Second Stage Round 10: St.Poelten - Wels 97-98

Fifth-ranked UBC St. Poelten (14-18) made lots of trouble for third ranked Raiffeisen Flyers Wels (19-13) in St.Poelten. The visitors from Wels managed to secure only one-point victory 98-97. However their fans expected easier game. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 23-20. But UBC St. Poelten won second period 18-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Raiffeisen Flyers Wels forced 22 UBC St. Poelten turnovers. Strangely UBC St. Poelten outrebounded Raiffeisen Flyers Wels 58-32 including a 27-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of German guard Christian von Fintel (190-1990) who helped to win the game recording 27 points and 4 assists. American-Nigerian guard Austen Awosika (190-1998, college: CS Fullerton) contributed with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Raiffeisen Flyers Wels' coach Sebastian Waser allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American guard Mike Holton Jr (186-1990, college: St.Michael's) replied with 36 points (!!!) and 6 assists and the former international forward Guylain Mbemba (197-2003) added 11 points and 16 rebounds in the effort for UBC St. Poelten. Four Raiffeisen Flyers Wels and five UBC St. Poelten players scored in double figures. Raiffeisen Flyers Wels maintains third position with 19-13 record despite having the same number of points like the leader Vienna, which they share with UBSC Graz. UBC St. Poelten lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with 18 games lost. They share the position with Klosterneuburg.
