Regular Season Round 32: Trier - Jena 69-89
Date: April 16, 2023
There was a small surprise when sixteenth ranked Science City Jena (11-21) outplayed 13th ranked Gladiators (14-18) in Trier 89-69 on Sunday. They outrebounded Gladiators 40-27 including 27 on the defensive glass. American players dominated the game. The winners were led by center Alex Herrera (206-1992, college: Fort Lewis) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 10 points, 12 rebounds and 5 blocks and guard Carlton Guyton (190-1990, college: Kent St., agency: Mansfield and Associates) supported him with 18 points. Five Science City Jena players scored in double figures. Even 34 points (!!!) by point guard Jordan Johnson (177-1995, college: UNLV) did not help to save the game for Gladiators. Parker Van Dyke (191-1994, college: Utah) added 13 points for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Science City Jena maintains sixteenth position with 11-21 record. Gladiators lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the thirteenth place with 18 games lost. Science City Jena will meet at home bottom-ranked Schwenningen (#18) in the next round. Gladiators will play against Eisbaeren Bremerhaven (#8) and hope to secure a win.
