Regular Season Round 29: Zalgiris - Wolves 71-65

The game between Top Four teams took place in Kaunas. First ranked host Zalgiris (25-4) defeated 3rd placed Wolves (20-9) 71-65. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Wolves. The former international center Laurynas Birutis (213-1997) stepped up and scored 13 points and 5 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners and Latvian Rolands Smits (207-1995) chipped in 10 points and 6 rebounds. American guard Ahmad Caver (188-1996, college: ODU) responded with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import Rashard Kelly (203-1995, college: Wichita St.) scored 11 points. Four Wolves players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Zalgiris have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain first place with 25-4 record. Newly promoted Wolves keeps the third position with nine games lost. Zalgiris are looking forward to face Jonava (#6) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Wolves will play against Juventus and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
