Regular Season Round 30: Weissenfels - Hamburg 123-80
Date: April 22, 2023
There was a minor upset when 13th ranked Hamburg Towers (11-20) were outscored by fifteenth ranked MBC (10-18) in Weissenfels 123-80 on Saturday. MBC forced 21 Hamburg Towers turnovers and outrebounded them 41-30 including 28 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists. American point guard Charles Callison (185-1995, college: WSU, agency: Slash Sports) notched a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 assists to lead the effort and naturalized American center John Bryant (211-1987, college: Santa Clara) supported him with 18 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Four MBC players scored in double figures. Even 22 points by American Yoeli Childs (203-1998, college: BYU) did not help to save the game for Hamburg Towers. His fellow American import guard Ryan Taylor (198-1995, college: Northwestern) added 12 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. MBC moved-up to fourteenth place. Loser Hamburg Towers keep the thirteenth position with 20 games lost. MBC will meet higher ranked EnBW Ludwigsburg (#6) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Hamburg Towers will play against Hakro Merlins (#15) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
