Not a big story in a game in Weissenfels where 16th ranked MBC (10-23) was outplayed by fourth ranked EWE Baskets (21-12) 102-74 on Friday. EWE Baskets made 29-of-34 free shots (85.3 percent) during the game. EWE Baskets outrebounded MBC 43-31 including 31 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The game was dominated by American players. Point guard DeWayne Russell (180-1994, college: GCU) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists for the winners and Trey Drechsel (198-1996, college: GCU) chipped in 17 points and 6 rebounds. Four EWE Baskets players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was swingman Kris Clyburn (198-1996, college: UNLV) with 26 points and 6 rebounds (went 12 for 12 at the free throw line !!!) and guard Mitchell Ballock (196-1998, college: Creighton) scored 16 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. EWE Baskets maintains fourth place with 21-12 record. MBC lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the sixteenth position with 23 games lost. EWE Baskets will meet at home higher ranked Bayern Muenchen (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. MBC will play against Hakro Merlins (#14) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
