Regular Season Round 3: Kocaeli - Gaziantep 80-81

A very close game took place in Izmit between Gaziantep and Kocaeli. Gaziantep (2-1) got a very close victory on the road over Kocaeli (0-3). Gaziantep managed to escape with a 1-point win 81-80 on Saturday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Gaziantep made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. It was an exceptional evening for American point guard Maurice Watson (178-1993, college: Creighton) who led the winners and scored 22 points and 7 assists. Erkin Senel (191-1999) accounted for 15 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. American forward Keith Stone (206-1997, college: Miami, FL) came up with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds and the former international point guard Ibrahim Yildirim (190-1990) added 12 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Kocaeli in the defeat. Four Gaziantep and five Kocaeli players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Gaziantep will meet at home Ormanspor (#10) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Kocaeli will play against Sigortam.net (#2) in Balikesir and hopes to get finally their first victory.
