There was an upset when Frankfurt Makk. (1-2) was outplayed on the road by Giessen (1-0) 101-69 on Sunday. Giessen dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Frankfurt Makk.'s 20 and made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. Giessen forced 27 Frankfurt Makk. turnovers and outrebounded them 42-28 including 30 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was Spanish point guard Miquel Oliva (183-2000) who scored 27 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. American forward Josiah De La Cerda (203, college: OUAZ) chipped in a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds. Four Giessen players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Czech Jan Dolejsi (187-1992) who recorded 28 points and guard Tim Steiner (186-1992) added 16 points respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Giessen will meet Tuebingen (#14) on the road in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Frankfurt Makk. will have a break next round.
