There was a surprise result when BG Goettingen (1-0) defeated at home Hakro Merlins (1-2) 110-104 on Saturday. BG Goettingen looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Bodie Hume (198-1999, college: N.Colorado) who had a double-double by scoring 30 points and 14 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Umoja Gibson (185-1998, college: DePaul) chipped in 19 points, 6 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 steals. At the other side the best for losing team was French guard Leo Westermann (198-1992, agency: Octagon Europe) who recorded 24 points and 9 assists and American guard Keandre Cook (196-1997, college: Missouri St.) added 22 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Four BG Goettingen and five Hakro Merlins players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. BG Goettingen will meet Chemnitz (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hakro Merlins will play against Bayern Muenchen (#7) and hope to win that game.
