There was a minor upset when 6th ranked CAB Madeira (2-2) lost to ninth ranked Benfica (2-2) in Lisbon 65-73 on Sunday. Benfica outrebounded CAB Madeira 51-29 including a 35-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by the former international guard Marta Martins (162-2001) who scored that evening 21 points and 7 assists (perfect from downtown making all five shots) and center Carolina Cruz (190-2001, college: Manhattan) supported her with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Even 18 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists by French center Maelys Martinet (187-1999) did not help to save the game for CAB Madeira. American guard Sila Finau (175, college: CBU) added 11 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists for lost side. Five CAB Madeira players scored in double figures. Benfica moved-up to seventh place, which they share with CAB Madeira and Imortal. Benfica will meet Barcelos (#10) on the road in the next round. CAB Madeira will play against Esgueira and hope to secure a win.
