Regular Season Round 5: Rm Valcea - Ploiesti CSM 78-84

There was a minor upset when 5th ranked Rm Valcea (2-3) lost to seventh ranked Ploiesti CSM (2-3) in Ramnicu Valcea 78-84 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 22-14. But Rm Valcea won second period 22-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Ploiesti CSM looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American guard Reginald Johnson (187-1994, college: Hampton, agency: Helping Ballers) nailed 20 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side and his fellow American import Kenney Funderburk (193-1992, college: Columbus St.) accounted for 19 points and 6 assists. American guard Stephaun Branch (196, college: UWG, agency: Slash Sports) came up with 21 points and 6 rebounds and Nigerian-Italian center Peter Olisemeka (207) added 14 points and 11 rebounds respectively for Rm Valcea in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Ploiesti CSM moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Rm Valcea. Ploiesti CSM will meet at home higher ranked Oradea (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Rm Valcea will play against Focsani and hope to secure a win.
