Regular Season Round 6: Trier - Bayreuth 96-88

Very predictable result in Trier where third ranked Gladiators (5-1) beat 8th ranked Bayreuth (3-3) 96-88 on Sunday. Gladiators dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Bayreuth's 34. American guard Marcus Graves (185-1996, college: Sacramento St.) scored 19 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the former international center Maik Zirbes (208-1990) chipped in 19 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. Gladiators' coach Don Beck used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American guard Shane Gatling (188-1998, college: Colorado) with 17 points and 6 assists and his fellow American import forward Aaron Carver (201-1996, college: ODU) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds. Four Gladiators and five Bayreuth players scored in double figures. Gladiators moved-up to second place, which they share with Hagen. Loser Bayreuth dropped to the ninth position with three games lost. They share it with Koblenz. Gladiators will meet Falcons (#15) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Bayreuth will play against Muenster (#5) and hope to secure a win and be promoted back to the BBL just one year after relegation.
