Bottom-ranked Nord Dragonz (0-5) is still winless. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their fifth consecutive match to fourth ranked UBC St. Poelten (4-1) 106-66 on Wednesday evening. The game was mostly controlled by UBC St. Poelten. Nord Dragonz managed to win fourth quarter 20-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. UBC St. Poelten dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Nord Dragonz's 24. They outrebounded Nord Dragonz 38-21 including 27 on the defensive glass. UBC St. Poelten looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard MJ Randolph (193-1999, college: FAMU) who scored 22 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Slovenian swingman Matej Kavas (201-1996, college: Nebraska) chipped in 28 points and 6 rebounds. Randolph is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Five UBC St. Poelten players scored in double figures. Guard Valentin Pasterk (184-2003) produced 16 points and 7 assists and Croatian center Mario Spaleta (209-1995) added 15 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) respectively for the hosts. Nord Dragonz's coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. UBC St. Poelten moved-up to second place, which they share with Kapfenberg. Nord Dragonz lost their fifth game in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. They share the position with Furstenfeld. UBC St. Poelten will meet at home Timberwolves (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Nord Dragonz will play against Gmunden Swans and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
