Regular Season Round 5: Rilski - Beroe 86-82

There was a small surprise in Samokov where eighth ranked Rilski (2-3) defeated 6th ranked Beroe (2-3) 86-82 on Sunday. Rilski forced 19 Beroe turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was American Joe Lawson (200, college: Indianapolis) who scored 22 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). The former international Chavdar Kostov (196-1988, agency: BIG) chipped in 16 points. Lawson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American forward Carlos Pepin (201, college: ESU) produced 29 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Mihail Kombakov (185-2003) added 21 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Rilski moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Beroe. Rilski will meet at home league's second-placed CSKA in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Beroe will play against Akademik P. (#10) and hope to secure a win.
