The game had a very big importance for second-rankedOradea as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Oradea defeated 8th ranked Focsani at home 85-76 . The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Focsani won third quarter 19-18 . However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Oradea looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The former international center Catalin Baciu (214-1988, college: Clemson) fired a double-double by scoring 18 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners. American Nijal Pearson (196-1997, college: Texas St., agency: SLN) chipped in 25 points (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). American guard Derryck Thornton (190-1997, college: Boston Coll.) produced 19 points and 4 assists and the other American import guard Sherwood Brown (193, college: FGCU) added 18 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Oradea (6-1) have an impressive series of six victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Pitesti and Rapid. Focsani at the other side keeps the eighth place with six games lost. They share the position with Galati.
