Regular Season Round 9: Artland - Kirchheim 73-88

Bottom-rankedArtland Dragons (0-9) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 88-73 loss to sixth ranked Kirchheim Knights (6-3) in Quakenbrueck on Saturday evening. They made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Kirchheim looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The game was dominated by American players. Guard Michael Flowers (185-1999, college: WSU) stepped up and scored 23 points and 7 assists for the winners and guard Mike Miller (193-1997, college: N.Texas) chipped in 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was point guard Buzz Anthony (180-1998, college: RMC) with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 assists and Brandon Thomas (198-1984, college: UMass, agency: Interperformances) scored 11 points and 8 rebounds. Five Kirchheim and four Artland players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Kirchheim moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Muenster and Hagen. Loser Artland Dragons still closes the standings with nine games lost.
