Regular Season Round 7: Perkunas - Zalgiris 74-99

Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Kaunas:Zalgiris (#3) and Perkunas (#8). Perkunas was crushed at home by 25 points 74-99 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. The game without a history. Zalgiris led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Perkunas ' 44. They outrebounded Perkunas 47-21 including a 34-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for power forward Martynas Kancevicius (203-2006) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds. French forward Thomas Bassong-Croixmarie (197-2006) accounted for 25 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Four Zalgiris players scored in double figures. Point guard Mantas Kidikas (179-2006) came up with 14 points and swingman Kajus Gerdziunas (195-2007) added 8 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Perkunas in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Zalgiris (6-1) moved-up to second place, which they share with VKKM. Perkunas at the other side dropped to the sixth position with four games lost. They share it with 4 other teams.
