Regular Season Round 8: Gheorgheni - Stiinta 77-69

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both sixth rankedGheorgheni and 9th ranked Stiinta had identical 3-4 record. This time Gheorgheni used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Bucharest 77-69 on Saturday night. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Stiinta won third quarter 17-15 . However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gheorgheni made 30-of-37 free shots (81.1 percent) during the game, while Stiinta only scored thirteen points from the stripe. They outrebounded Stiinta 49-37 including 35 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American power forward Martell Miller (198-1996, college: Detroit) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points, 21 rebounds and 6 assists. Slovenian point guard Matevz Magusar (185-1989) chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Five Gheorgheni players scored in double figures. Gheorgheni's coach Zoltan Kercso used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Mihnea Vlaicu (178-2006) produced 22 points and 8 rebounds and David Matesescu (-2006) added 13 points and 7 assists respectively for the guests. Gheorgheni (4-4) moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Stiinta lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the sixth position with five games lost. They share it with Ploiesti CSM 2 and Rm Valcea 2.
