Regular Season Round 18: Zalgiris - Perkunas 92-83

Another interesting game was again a derby between two teams from Kaunas:Zalgiris (#1) and Perkunas (#8). Zalgiris (17-1) won against visiting Perkunas (7-11) 92-83 . The hosts were already 14 points ahead at halftime and as many as 22 after three quarters before a 31-18 last quarter charge of Perkunas cut the lead to 92-83 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Perkunas 50-38 including a 30-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Zalgiris brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Power forward Martynas Kancevicius (204-2006) notched a double-double by scoring 24 points and 14 rebounds to lead the effort and French forward Thomas Bassong (197-2006) supported him with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Four Zalgiris players scored in double figures. Zalgiris' coach Tomas Bakanauskas allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 35 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds by point guard Dominykas Grunkis (164-2007) did not help to save the game for Perkunas . Point guard Paulius Lukasevicius (181-2006) added 20 points. Zalgiris have an impressive 13-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 17-1 record. Perkunas lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth place with 11 games lost.
