Very expected game when 10th rankedMersin G. (3-4) was smashed on the road by second ranked Canakkale (6-1) 84-56 on Friday. Canakkale forced 23 Mersin G. turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American center Mary Baskerville (190-2000, college: Quinnipiac) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Naturalized Swedish guard Maryam Gultekin (166-1990) accounted for 11 points and 9 assists for the winning side. Four Canakkale players scored in double figures. Canakkale's coach Tugce Canbaz felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Eslem Guler (180-2006) came up with 13 points and 8 rebounds and Azra Ercelik (-2005) added 6 points and 6 assists respectively for Mersin G. in the defeat. The victory was the third consecutive win for Canakkale . Newly promoted Canakkale maintains second place with 6-1 record behind leader Ferhatoglu. Mersin G. lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the ninth position with four games lost. They share it with Urla and Emlak 2.
