Premijer Liga Round 7 (Regular Season): Zadar Plus edge Pozega by one point

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most exciting game of round 7 in the Premijer Liga took place in Pozega. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 3rd placed Pozega (5-2) to fifth ranked Zadar Plus (5-2) 81-80 in the game for the third place. Zadar Plus outrebounded Pozega 46-32 including 31 on the defensive glass. American guard Asiah Dingle (165-2000, college: Fordham, agency: BIG) fired a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 8 rebounds, 10 assists and 6 steals for the winners. Center Katarina Trehub (192-1997) chipped in 15 points and 14 rebounds. The former international forward Lea Miletic (184-1995) produced 31 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for lost side. Zadar Plus have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Sibenik and Pozega. Zadar Plus is looking forward to face KAZL Split (#8) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Pozega will play against the league's second-placed Ragusa (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Important game to mention about took place in Zagreb. Sixth ranked Zagreb (3-4) saved a 1-point victory at home edging 7th ranked KAZL Split (2-5) 68-67 on Saturday evening. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Meghan Boyd (155, college: Colorado St.) who helped to win the game recording 25 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Hana Arnautovic contributed with 13 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Guard Gina Pirjak (165-2006) answered with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for KAZL Split. Zagreb maintains sixth place with 3-4 record, which they share with Rijeka. KAZL Split lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth position with five games lost. They share it with Zadar and Pula-Orca. Zagreb will play against Brod na Savi (#11) in Slavonski Brod in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. KAZL Split will play on the road against Zadar Plus and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Undefeated leader Tresnjevka delivered the seventh consecutive victory on Saturday night. This time they beat 10th ranked Zadar (2-5) 71-67. It was a great evening for Nina Novak who led her team to a victory scoring 11 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side Emilija Podrug responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 14 rebounds and 7 assists (made all of her twelve free throws !!!). Undefeated Tresnjevka (7-0) have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain first place with a perfect record of 7 victories in a row. Newly promoted Zadar dropped to the eighth position with five games lost. They share it with KAZL Split and Pula-Orca. Tresnjevka will meet at home Rijeka (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Zadar will play against Pula-Orca in Zagreb and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Other games of round 7 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Medvescak was crushed by Rijeka in a road game 79-56. Ragusa smashed Pula-Orca at home 105-68. Brod na Savi lost to Sibenik on the opponent's court 72-87.

Rijeka - Medvescak 79-56

There was no surprise when 11th ranked Medvescak (1-6) was crushed on the road by eighth ranked Rijeka (3-4) 79-56 on Saturday. Rijeka dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Medvescak's 22. They outrebounded Medvescak 38-25 including 31 on the defensive glass. Rijeka looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for Serbian-Bosnian forward Ivona Krakic (188-1999, college: Georgian Court) who led her team to a victory scoring 17 points and 9 rebounds. The former international guard Lina Strilic (174-2003) helped adding 15 points and 6 assists. Rijeka's coach Teddy Delac felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side guard Ivana Mamic (162-2003) responded with 20 points and 4 assists and guard Gabriela Grizelj (172-2001) scored 12 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Rijeka moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Zagreb. Medvescak at the other side dropped to the bottom position with six games lost. They share it with Brod na Savi. Rijeka will meet league's leader Tresnjevka in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Medvescak will play against Sibenik (#3) and hope to win that game.

No shocking result in a game in Dubrovnik where third ranked Ragusa (6-1) smashed 7th ranked Pula-Orca (2-5) 105-68 on Saturday. Ragusa forced 26 Pula-Orca turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Pula-Orca's players. It was a great evening for the former international forward Iva Todoric (174-1993) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 5 rebounds, 11 assists and 4 steals. International Tihana Stojsavljevic (191-1997, college: Virginia) helped adding 15 points and 9 rebounds. Ragusa's coach Simona Soda felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side center Karolina Skare (183-2005, agency: Highlight Athletes) responded with 21 points and 5 rebounds and Bosnian guard Marija Vrdoljak (186-2005) scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Five Ragusa and four Pula-Orca players scored in double figures. Defending champion moved-up to second place. Pula-Orca lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth position with five games lost. They share it with Zadar and KAZL Split. Ragusa will meet Pozega (#4) on the road in the next round. Pula-Orca will play against Zadar (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Very expected game when 11th ranked Brod na Savi (1-6) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked Sibenik (5-2) 87-72 on Saturday. Sibenik looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for American forward Tamia Lawhorne (186-2001, college: Marshall) who led her team to a victory scoring 27 points. Her fellow American import guard Ariel Johnson (175-2000, college: LMU) helped adding 22 points and 4 assists. Sibenik's coach Stipe Bralic used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side naturalized Bosnian guard Milica Sirovina (181-2004) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds and guard Andrea Stankovic (172-2006) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds. Four Brod na Savi players scored in double figures. Sibenik have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Pozega and Zadar Plus. Brod na Savi at the other side keeps the eleventh position with six games lost. They share it with Medvescak. Sibenik will meet bottom-ranked Medvescak (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Brod na Savi will play against Zagreb and hope to win that game.
