Bears defend Basketligaen title Bakken 105,
Svendborg 96
The Bakken Bears claimed their second straight Basketligaen title
after overcoming Svendborg in the Finals. The Bears completed a 4-0
sweep and proved their status as the best Danish team at the moment.
The Svendborg Rabbits entered the fourth encounter with their backs
against the wall, down 3-0 in the final series and desperately needing
some heroics to survive. But the Bears looked simply unstoppable,
getting off to an aggressive high-flying start and soon building a 32-23
lead. The Rabbits, however, restored intrigue in the second quarter as
Brayden Billbe (208-C-85, agency:
Worldwide Hoops, college:
American) fueled the hosts' comeback effort. Svendborg managed to
trim the deficit to 3 points at halftime, 53-50. The game turned into a
heated battle after the break as Svendborg tried fiercely to deny the
deficit, but the experienced Bears squad kept the home team in bay:
Bakken outrebounded the hosts 30-20 and converted impressive 64% from
the field, never allowing their opponents to surge in front and
celebrated an impressive victory that gave them another Basketligaen
Gold. Nicolai Iversen (204-F-80, agency:
Rasmussen Services, college:
San Jose City JC) paced the Bears with 25 points.
Jason Siggers (193-G/F-85, agency:
Strategic Sports, college:
Albany) provided 15 points and
Chris Christoffersen (218-C-79, college:
Oregon) nailed 14 points and grabbed 9 rebounds for the winners.
Brayden Billbe answered with game-high 30 points for Svendborg.
Martin Mariegaard (183-G-81) and
Claus Magaard (194-G/F-86) had 12 points each in a losing effort.
