EuroBasket 2023: Germany drive past Slovakia, enter quarterfinals

Germany - Slovakia 79-69

Germany made it into the quarterfinal stage of 2023 EuroBasket. They knocked down Slovakia in the qualifying clash today. Marie Guelich (194-C-1994, college: Oregon St.) came up with 26 points and 9 rebounds to pace the winners.
Germany sank 21 points in the first period to take a 2-point lead. They extended the lead in the second frame. Germany recorded a 44-36 halftime lead. Germany limited their opponents to just 12 points in the third stanza to gain a 13-point lead at the final break. Slovakia narrowed the gap in the fourth stanza but could not avoid the defeat. Leonie Fiebich (193-SF-2000) notched 15 points and 8 boards for the winning side. Barbora Wrzesinski (178-G-1994) replied with 18 points for Slovakia.
