KORISLIIGA: Pyrinto third time the very best - May 18, 2014

Korisliiga, Finals, Game # 4: There will not be any Game # 5 in the Finals. Pyrinto (Tampere) visiting today at Joensuu and beating local Kataja 78-88 (36-41). Quarters: 18-22, 18-19, 19-18 and 23-29. This means Pyrinto has won the third Finnish Championship, when defeating Kataja 3-1. Three years ago (2010-11) Pyrinto and Kataja were also in the finals. Then Pyrinto won 3-2.
Pyrinto's Head Coach Pieti Poikola , who is also the Head Coach of Denmark men's NT, was very satisfied with his players. Poikola said they had good players, all players had suitable roles, they had worked all season hard and team spirit was excellent. He didn't want much credit for himself!
Today Pyrinto was shooting better from all distances, they had more rebounds (35-34) and less turnovers (9-12) plus their players were mentally stronger. Even 40-year-old Damon Williams (201-F-73, agency: Two Points, college: Colorado St.-Pueblo) was like a king on the court. Williams led Pyrinto with 20 points and was 4/6 from beyond the arc. Benjamin Raymond (198-G/F-87, agency: KMG Sports Management, college: Xavier) had again a double-double 16pts/11rbs, Kelvin Lewis (195-G-88, agency: IBS, college: Houston) worked hard in defense and missed only one FT in this game: 1 - 5/6, 2 - 1/1, 3 - 3/3 = 16pts. Team's Finnish pro player and captain Antero Lehto (185-PG-84) netted 12pts.

Kataja's superman Alex Wesby (198-G-80, agency: R.H.Consultancy, college: Temple) scored game high 31 points (1 - 2/4, 2 - 7/13, 3 - 5/7), but got scoring help mostly and only from Mike Morrison (205-F-89, agency: Interperformances, college: George Mason) (15pts) and Teemu Rannikko (189-PG-80) (11pts). Kataja had won the sixth silver medal, but never been Finnish Champion. For Sami Lehtoranta (205-PF-79) this silver was # 7 and if his basketball career was now over, he was never able to win it all.
Kataja - Pyrinto 78-88 (36-41). (Alex Wesby 31, Mike Morrison 15, Teemu Rannikko 11/6a - Damon Williams 20/7, BJ Raymond 16/11, Kelvin Lewis 16, Antero Lehto 12/5a. A: 2302).
The season 2013-14 is in the package. This season was interesting and long. The regular season winner became also Finnish Champion. The best team was the best. Pyrinto had an excellent success: 77 games during 2013-14 season, record 61-16!
